Bluetooth Headsets....

Bluetooth Headsets!!! (Sounds cool right)

Is it worth spending Rs. 3000-4000 for this headset when you can buy an ordinary one for Rs. 200? Maybe... Maybe not....

Well, if you are one of those rich kids who goes out frequently and wants to boast, you might be tempted to buy this, but trust me, this stuff is not for you. What I personally think is, these things are for professionals or buisness men who are generally busy doing work with their hands rather than teens who are busy playing ball or getting wet in the pool.

One more important thing to notice is that bluetooth headsets dont have a long talktime support. Since bluetooth is nothing but, communication with radio waves, the battery can get drained up pretty quickly. Buisness men are usually in places which have ready access to chargers. This condition is not true with teens who are too busy in resturants or watching movies in a theatre.

Those of you who take extra care of their health (extra extra care) might be worried about the fact that they might get cancer, because of the continious bombarding of radio waves near your brain.

Finally, who the hell wants to cary all that stuff around. Most of the people today are feeling lazy to carry themselves, who will want to cary that extra headset.

One good thing about the headphones with cord is that, they look cool. I think when you wear one of these headsets with a Police (designer) eye wear, one would look like a secret agent from those english movies. (Coooooooooooooooooool!!!)

These headphones are small and fit exactly in the ear, which sometimes can be a disadvantage. You can use these as long as your phone works. The best part is, you can buy a new one without shedding any tears.

Bluetooth headset looks very bulky and bears a very close resemblence to a Hearing aid. How will you feel when you walk next to a girl with that thing (headset) on, and she mistakes that (headset) for a hearing aid? (Hmmm, Are girls that dumb??? Maybe, why take a chance...)

Laptops

There are so many laptops in the market, one would obviously get confused and not be sure which one to buy. I just want to help you understand some general stuff about computers so that the you can reduce the choices.

All laptops have a motherboard, a harddisk, a DVD/CD writer, a Screen, a battery, a keyboard, a Touch pad, few USB ports, IEEE 1394 ports, Storage Media slots. (Keep reading [:) !!)

These things are there in every laptop in the market today. When you buy a laptop, what you should see is how comfortable you are using a particular model. Every person has a requirement. I like IBM very much because the keyboard is soft and the touch-pad has the left and right click buttons both on top and bottom. If you look at a Toshiba laptop, one problem you will face is that, it has a totally different keyboard layout. (At least in the ones that I have seen). So toshiba laptops will not help the people who have good typing experience, because the keys wont be there where you expect them to be.

What you should also know is for what purpose you will be using the laptop mostly? Students might not need a system with a very high graphics processor, but they may need a very high RAM. So here they can give priority to LAN, 802.11 and RAM.

If you are a buisness man your priority will be system style, data security and warranty. The maximum a buisness man uses his comp. for will be for playing presentations, sending mail and surfing net. All these things can be done with any laptop in the market, but when we consider Style, Data Security/Safety and Warranty the only choice with which we end up is IBM and maybe Dell. IBM has hard disk protection, looks absolutely stylish, biometrics security, a very userfriendly BIOS setup and in case you suffer a crash all you need to do is press a button and the system will return to the initial settings again. Many people like this facility because, you dont need to call a engineer to fix your laptop.

Lastly, I would recommend that you use your laptop before buying it. Touch it, look at it, try running a few programs, try doing everything that you will do with your system. See if you are comfortable with the system before buying it. As I said all laptops have the same hardware components. If you wanna be specific about the components like an Intel Motherboard, thats ok. But that will not make much of a difference. Instead, you can concentrate more on warranty and service options.

Optimus Keyboard [:))

I dont know how many out there are regular Slashdot.org readers, but if you call yourself a geek and have not seen this keyboard, I would say you suuucccckk!!!

(Due to lack of space the pictures are scaled. To view better quality pictures check the comanys site)

Keyboard

As you can see in the picture, every button on the keyboard is a mini-screen (colour obviously). So when you press the shift button in your keyboard, the images of the alphabets will change to capital letters. Incase you wanna use the japanese language (I dunno why you would wanna do that :-) ) the images will automatically change to those characters belonging to japanese character set.

* One problem maybe the speed with which the image changes. It may look good (An option for varying the speed will be good), if the chage is slow, but for someone who types fast, it can be a pain in the ass. If you are going to use the capital letter for typing only one alphabet (like 'H' in Hello), then the whole keyboard layout change may not be needed. (I am sure the developers have considered this option)

The best part in this keyboard is that when a particular program loads, it can automatically change the keyboard characterset so that you can use if more efficiently. This is shown with the example of the Quake game.

You no longer have to confuse yourself by remembering those damn buttons. This is as user-friendly as a keyboard can get. Here is one more example of the keyboard when adapted to Adobe Photoshop.

Now can your keyboard do all that!!!!

Eventhough this keyboard looks good, can everyone afford it?? (Thats a nice question!!!) Since the company has not decided the price as yet, we have to wait.

A final look at the keyboard...
