Opera and GMail interface

I have begun using Opera recently and one thing that is absolutely pissing me off is that when I
login to GMail, I am autmatically redirected to the HTML interface. But when I click on the "switch to standard view" link, I am taken to the AJAX interface.

If Opera does support AJAX then why am I being redirected to the HTML interface??

Is this a fault of GMail or Opera???
